The Seasons Between Stories

Where Have I Been? It’s funny how quickly time gets away from you.

One minute you’re planning your next blog post, outlining future projects, and telling yourself you’ll have an update out next week. The next thing you know, months have passed and you’re staring at a blinking cursor wondering where the time went.

The truth is, life happened. The past year has been one of the busiest and most challenging periods I’ve had in a long time. Between changes at work, uncertainty about the future, family responsibilities, and building our farm, there simply weren’t enough hours in the day.

Like many people reaching this stage of life, I’ve found myself watching my parents grow older. That’s a strange thing. No matter how old we become ourselves, part of us always sees our parents as larger than life. Seeing them face the realities of age has been a reminder that time moves forward whether we’re ready for it or not.

At the same time, my family and I have been pouring energy into Freshwater Roots Farm. What started as a dream has slowly become something tangible. There are few things more rewarding than standing in the woods during maple season, watching sap flow from trees you’ve spent months caring for, knowing you’re building something that will hopefully last for generations.

Of course, farming has a way of teaching humility. Every plan takes longer than expected. Every project uncovers three more projects. Every accomplishment comes with a new challenge waiting just around the corner.

Work has brought its own changes as well. Career shifts always come with a mixture of excitement and uncertainty. Even when the opportunities are good, stepping into something new requires faith that the path ahead will eventually make sense.Through all of it, however, one thing never stopped. The writing.

While I may have disappeared from the blog for a while, I never stopped creating.Over the past several months I’ve been working on four different novels.

The first is Book Two of The Chronicles of the Undying Wizard, continuing Apocalypse’s journey through Ixteledar. Those of you who enjoyed Apocalypse Unveiled will be happy to know that the story has continued to grow in ways I never expected when I first started writing it.

I’ve also been developing a LitRPG set within the world of Ixteledar. It’s a different kind of story than the Undying Wizard books, but one that lets me explore parts of the world that readers haven’t seen before. Building game systems, character progression, and new adventures inside a setting I’ve spent years creating has been an absolute blast.

And then there are the surprises.

Somewhere along the way I found myself writing not one but two science fiction novels. Apparently my imagination decided fantasy wasn’t enough and needed to start exploring the stars as well.

Each project has challenged me in different ways, and each one has reminded me why I started writing in the first place.

Stories matter. They help us process difficult times. They help us dream about better ones. They give us places to escape to when the world becomes a little too heavy.

Looking back, I realize that although I haven’t been active here, I haven’t been standing still. I’ve been building. Learning. Growing. Writing.

Life doesn’t always move in straight lines. Sometimes the seasons are for planting rather than harvesting. Sometimes progress happens quietly, hidden beneath the surface long before anyone else can see it.

So while I’ve been absent, I’ve been working.

And now that the dust has settled a bit, I wanted to stop by, say hello, and let everyone know that I’m still here.

There are more stories coming.

More updates from the farm.

More adventures from Ixteledar.

And hopefully, a few more blog posts that don’t take quite so long to arrive.

Until next time,—

T.J. Wright
