Chase Your Dreams: A Father’s Letter to Dreamers

Dreams don’t come with an expiration date. This truth hit home recently when my daughter, in her final year of college, shared a conversation that troubled my heart. As she pursues her aspirations of becoming an editor and author, she was told that without immediate success post-graduation, her dreams might be unreachable.

As both a father and a debut author in my forties, I couldn’t disagree more.

You see, for over two decades, I wrote in the shadows, crafting stories that remained hidden away. My journey to becoming a published author didn’t follow a straight path or a conventional timeline. Instead, it meandered through years of quiet dedication, persistent hope, and unwavering determination. Now, as I prepare to release my first novel, “Apocalypse Unveiled,” I’m living proof that dreams don’t have a deadline.

Life isn’t a race with a single finish line. We’re not cookie-cutter humans stamped from the same mold, and our paths to success shouldn’t be either. Each of us carries unique experiences, faces different challenges, and moves at our own pace. What unites us isn’t our timeline but our capacity to dream.

To my daughter, and to every dreamer reading this: your dreams are valid, regardless of how long they take to achieve. Don’t let anyone’s limited perspective dim your ambitions. Whether you’re fresh out of college or, like me, discovering your courage decades later, the journey is yours to define.

The beauty of dreams lies not just in their achievement but in their pursuit. If my stories can entertain, inspire, or touch even one person’s life, then every year spent working toward this goal will have been worth it. That’s the magic of chasing dreams – they have the power to create ripples of impact we might never fully see.

So here’s my challenge to you:

  • Dream big, without apology
  • Understand that some dreams need chasing
  • Remember that you are worthy of your ambitions
  • Never let anyone’s doubts become your limitations

Everyone has dreams, but not everyone has the courage to pursue them. Be among those who dare to chase, who refuse to let age, circumstance, or others’ opinions define their potential.

Your dream might not unfold according to someone else’s timeline, and that’s perfectly fine. What matters is that you keep moving forward, keep believing, and keep working toward your goals. Whether you’re twenty-two or forty-four, the best time to chase your dreams is now.

Because in the end, it’s not about when you start – it’s about refusing to give up. I hope everyone out there is having a great Christmas and get’s to spend it with their loved ones.
